Terms and Definitions
Congregate and Non-Congregate Housing
Congregate housing is a relatively communal living set-up, with shared living areas. This type of housing will be primarily or individuals who are staying at Southwick House on their own. Non-Congregate housing is housing that is set up more like an apartment, in which the living areas are private. For the comfort of our guests, this type of hosing will mostly be reserved for families or single fathers.

Low Barrier Housing
Low-barrier housing is temporary housing assistance that requires very little to qualify for the service. No-barrier housing has no restrictions that would prevent someone from qualifying for service. Southwick House has elected to operate as a low-barrier shelter for the safety and comfort of our guests so that we can screen out registered sex-offenders.
Community Partners

Community Partner are organizations and businesses in our service area that we work with to offer services, help residents, and reach community members.
Policies and Conditions
Qualifying for assistance
Southwick House is not yet accepting residents, however we will operate as a low-barrier housing shelter which means that we do have some requirements and restrictions for who will qualify for assistance. For example, for the safety and security of our residents, staff, and volunteers we will not offer housing to registered sex-offenders.

Expectations for Southwick House guests
Southwick House is intended to help members of vulnerable populations get back on their feet. Some guests will have the opportunity for budgeting classes, document procurement help, transportation help, and more.

These policies will be updated as we near opening in the first quarter of 2025.
