Southwick House Identifies Property

Emporia, KAN. – Southwick House, formerly known as Plumb Place, has successfully entered into an agreement with the Kretsinger family for the purchase of six acres at 115 E. Logan Ave. The site will be the home of a new 9,000-square-foot transitional living facility. Fundraising efforts are underway on the $3.6M project.

Following an extensive 10-month search, Executive Director, Susan Brinkman, said the pieces are coming together with this location.

“We considered so many options for the next 100 years of Southwick House including possible renovations of existing homes but at the end of the day, the Kretsinger property, the history of the land, and the site plan were the fit we were looking for.”

Southwick House has engaged with BG Consultants on the facility design.

“BG Consultants is incredibly proud to have partnered with Southwick House on the planning and design of their new transitional housing facility. This project is particularly unique and special to us because we see how it will directly impact the lives of people that may simply need a helping hand or find their path to better life opportunities. Our goal is to bring thoughtfulness and creativity to the design that will meet the needs of Southwick’s future residents and staff.” Said Grant Urban, project architect. “It’s a rewarding feeling that our team can be a part of this experience of designing a place with such an admirable purpose.”

The Kretsinger family is pleased with their new neighbors saying, “We are truly excited that Southwick House has chosen our property for their future location and look forward to completing the transaction.”

Southwick House board chair, Jeremy Dorsey appreciates the work of the entire community,

“On behalf of Southwick House, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our community and the City of Emporia for granting our conditional use permit request tonight. Our Board has been on a years-long journey to identify the right property to build a shelter that will serve women and families in need for the next 100 years. With tonight's approval, we are closer than ever to restoring services to our community. As we work to finalize the purchase of this property, we continue to seek donations to reach our goal and all assistance is greatly appreciated.
