Emporia, KAN. – Southwick House received news of successful grant partnerships from the Clint Bowyer 79 Fund and the Morgan Wilkie Trust totaling $26,820 this week. In an email to Southwick House, the organization was notified of the awards from the Emporia Community
Foundation.
The funds will be used to support the ongoing effort to raise 3.6M for a new 9,000 square foot facility serving homeless and housing insecure women and families in Lyon and surrounding counties.
The Clint Bowyer 79 Fund, long known for generously supporting youth in the region granted $25K to support the building of a playground at the new facility.
“The Clint Bowyer 79 Fund is pleased to help the much-needed project Southwick House. Clint is very interested in the needs of the Emporia community,” said Ray Toso, 79 Fund Trustee.
Jeremy Dorsey, President of the Southwick House board said, "Southwick House is grateful to both the 79 Fund and the Morgan Wilkie Fund for their contributions to our mission of restoring transitional housing services. These gifts will help us to lay the building blocks for a shelter that will fill service gaps for families and children experiencing homelessness, and this generosity will truly change the lives of people when they need help the most."
Established nearly seventy years ago, the Morgan Wilkie fund honors the lives and work of John and Clara Morgan Wilkie. The fund specifically aims to care for children and the elderly.
Executive Director, Susan Brinkman, is especially grateful for these partnerships.
“For 100 years, the Plumb family legacy served women in our region. The generosity of the Bowyer family and the Morgan Wilkie trustees allows us to further our work in building and sustaining supportive housing for women & children for the next 100 years,” Brinkman said.
